Uganda Health Communication Alliance and the International Center for Journalists have invited you to participate in a discussion Friday, 20 November, about health journalism in Uganda.
The meeting will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be held at the Triangle Hotel on Buganda Road.
The goal is to identify priority areas for health reporting and health journalism training. Your views will help guide research that will lead to the design of new training programs for health journalists. The research will be conducted by Kakaire A. Kirunda, a fellow at the Makerere University School of Public Health/Centers for Disease Control fellowship program. It will be supervised by Christopher Conte, Knight International Health Journalism Fellow, and Edith Nakku-Jaloba of the School of Public Health.
We have asked several of your colleagues to get the discussion started by offering some general views. These speakers will include;
Dr. William Mbabazi, disease surveillance officer for the World Health Organisation; Health and health care grand challenges
Dr. Emilio Ovuga, dean of the Gulu University Faculty of Medicine; Health journalism consultation
Dr. Francis Runumi, Commissioner, Planning, Ministry of Health; and
Dr. Freddie Ssengooba, faculty member at the School of Public Health. Media analysis and influence on health policies
